
Fiona MacDonald
Fiona MacDonald is a multidisciplinary maker with skills in performance, puppetry, writing, visual arts and design. As a recent graduate of WAAPA’s Bachelor of Performing Arts (Performance Making) degree, she has been engaged with arts practice for many years, honing her skills in collaborative devising for theatre. Her portfolio consists of solo works, small and large ensemble pieces, classical plays and immersive site-specific work. She has contributed to creative teams as a performer, devisor, puppeteer, writer, designer, and dramaturg and is particularly interested in honing her skills in visual storytelling and composition.
Her recent accolades include nomination for the Martin Sims Award (FRINGE WORLD Festival, 2022) for the show "Elliot's Big Nose" in which she was a puppeteer/performer, devisor and puppet maker; nomination for Best Costume Design (PAWA Awards, 2021) for “BITE ME”; and Fringe Weekly Theatre Award (FRINGE WORLD Festival, 2020) for the show “ 3° ” which she performed, designed and devised in. Other creative credits include “The Complete Show of Waterskiing” (designer, 2022), "ClueDunnit Murder Mysteries Series" (performer, 2021 ongoing) “HAIR” (performer and devisor, 2021) and “The Branch That Kept Bleeding” (performer/puppeteer and devisor, 2020).
In 2019 Fiona was selected to participate in an immersive 10 week study tour in Traditional Noh Theatre at the Intercultural Theatre Institute in Singapore. Training from Japanese Noh masters was combined with teachings in yoga, Taiji, Suzuki method, Estill Voice and Viewpoints method. She also brings additional physical theatre training from Zen Zen Zo and OzFrank Theatre; as well as puppetry training from Spare Parts Puppet Theatre and a masterclass with Agnes Limbos in Object Theatre.
In 2020, Fiona was selected to receive industry mentorship from Dead Puppet Society in Brisbane as part of the 10wk DPS Academy and Artist Lab. In 2021, Fiona was selected as an inaugural member of the Gatherer’s Collective, a 6 month mentorship program with The Last Great Hunt in Perth.
